Every Dog Needs A Job

Before Rich was training dogs full time, he was an electrical and civil engineering designer. He was hired by a company in Jacksonville, which was a couple hours from our house in Gainesville. He enjoyed the job, however, they ran out of work for him to do.

Even though he had nothing to do, they knew a big project was right around the corner and they needed to have him available for it.

What this turned into was 6 months of going in to work every day, with nothing to do once he got there. He asked for work from some of the other offices, but they did not have any for him either. They just wanted him at the office, so he played computer games and read, for 8 hours a day.

Now, this may seem like a “golden ticket” for some people – getting paid to do nothing, all day! However, it got old fast.

We are sharing this story with you because for many dogs, this is life.

They get everything they want handed to them without having to work for it.

Dogs want to have a job, that job can be as simple as being your walking buddy for 2 – 15 minute walks a day. Or bringing back that ball that you keep throwing far away. It doesn’t have to be anything too hard, just something for your dog to feel useful every day. What is your dog’s job?
