“Shocking” Kerrie
You may have met Kerrie, one of our shadow students. She worked with us for the past few months. We want to share a story with you about how we used the remote training collar to communicate with her during class.
Kerrie was so excited to train the students and their dogs, that she would start talking faster and – as we all know – the training center does not have the best acoustics. So when she talked fast, a lot of the important information she was imparting was lost. We needed a way to communicate with her to slow down. Rich and I could not stop her in the middle of talking, she would lose her train of thought. So we came up with a use for the remote training collar – we put it on her arm, and stimmed her when she needed to slow down. This worked extremely well. As soon as she started talking too fast, a little tap on the button and she would noticeably slow down, and people could easily understand her.
Now, we did have one problem, which was my user error. I was helping someone with their dog and accidentally pressed the button. Kerrie started talking slower, and slower, and slower… till she stopped and turned to look at me. Oops!
After the first class, Kerrie said she loved having that way to communicate from a distance. She knew that if she felt it, she needed to slow down, and if she didn’t feel it, then she was doing a great job!
Ecollar training is all about communication. We start with showing your dog what it means and how to turn it off. We guide with the leash so your dog does not get confused or struggle with it. Then we can use the remote training collar to communicate with and motivate your dog. And just like with Kerrie, we use it to build confidence all the time.
